Things have been… honestly, kind of bleak if I’m being truthful. I’ve had to have double elbow surgeries as well as carpal tunnel surgery on my right arm, and upcoming they’re going to be doing the same to my left (well, hopefully not the double part…). Still, art finds a way, doesn’t it?
Between surgeries, I’ve managed to peck out a few small things. Particularly, I’ve been exploring stumpwork!

My first ever stumpwork project was this little blue koi fish, which I think came out… well, kind of ok. I’ll be honest, I’m not totally happy with it, but I’m not sure I’m ready to go back in for round two with this idea yet, so it’s a “to be determined” later project.
My second foray into stumpwork was a little more practical – I made this little lotus pincushion! I find it quite invaluable now, and I don’t know how I survived without a proper pincushion before!

That’s all the embroidery I’ve been getting in to, lately…
Because I’ve also been trying to teach myself the verdaccho technique in soft pastel. This is a hugely untapped art in our society and I really think more people would pick up on pastels if they just knew the basics of how to use and blend them. I would really love to get “good” at them so I could teach others how to use them, too.
Here’s a piece I just finished, in which I attempted the verdaccho technique to get the undercolors of an apple to shine alongside it’s brightest lights. I don’t know if I would call it “successful” as a whole piece (man it’s so lumpy!) but I do think the colors came out quite nice.

I hope my next update comes a little sooner than this one did. 🙂 Until then, take care!
